The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday set March 31 as the deadline for completing construction of the road up to Chakan-da-Bagh crossing point on the LoC.
"We have kept a March 31 deadline for complete construction of the Poonch-Rawalakote road as it was decided by Indian and Pakistan to open it on the lines pattern of the Uri-Muzaffarabad road to facilitate cross-border travel for members of divided families," state Chief Secretary Vijay Bakaya said.
Bakaya, who chaired a high-level meeting on the matter, directed the authorities to start work at the earliest, the date for opening of link, and stressed the quality of work must be maintained.
He said an additional Rs 361 lakh was required to construct and upgrade the Chakan-da-Bagh road and the expenditure included construction of custom office, huts for tourists, water and power supply and upgradation of the road from Poonch to the opening point.
The Chief Secretary also directed the revenue authorities to acquire land for construction of the road while the forest department was asked to plant trees on both sides of road, he said.
Chakan-da-Bagh was the first of the five crossing points opened by the authorities on November 7 last year for passage of quake relief material and meeting of the divided families.
