The families are facing a number of problems since most of their household chattels were damaged by rain water flowing in. ?We are living on the roof since the last few days,? says M Ibrat Khan of Baraura Hussain Bari, adding, ?We don?t have any other house to live in.
OVER 400 families in Ekta Nagar, Baraura Hussain Bari, Balaganj, Campbell Road, Samnan Gardens and Prem Nagar areas are caught in a pool of stagnant rainwater. The families are facing a number of problems since most of their household chattels were damaged by rain water flowing in.
“We are living on the roof since the last few days,” says M Ibrat Khan of Baraura Hussain Bari, adding, “We don’t have any other house to live in. One of the walls of our house has collapsed. There is no food in store and our children are falling ill because of rain water that has turned green with algae. Everyone in the colony is suffering from skin and other ailments.” Cattle have died due to diseases. “We are not getting proper attention from the administration. Our animals are dying and we are not able to arrange proper treatment,” said one of the residents of a cattle colony in Balaganj.
Residents of Hussain Bari complained that the authorities did not bother to install pumps in the area to siphon out water and a number of people are suffering from gastro problems in the area.
“We are forced to live surrounded by stinking water. We have to cook our food in filthy surrounding. Our children are complaining of stomach ache and have to wade through the murky water without protection,” said Askari, a housewife.
Municipal Commissioner Ram Bodh Maurya assured the evacuation of 22 families in the area of Prem Nagar in similar circumstances, but on being asked, Additional Municipal Commissioner AC Sinha said the LMC had no such plans for the Hussainbari area yet. “We have installed 15 pumps in the area of Campbell road to siphon out the water and soon we would be able to free Hussain Bari area from waterlogging ,” said Sinha.
Meanwhile, residents of Subhani Khera Telibagh blocked traffic on the Rae Bareli Road to protest against water logging. Later, the LMC installed a pump to siphon out the water from the area.
