Country’s car major Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) launched the design version of its Swift model in the Capital Wednesday.

The car is powered by a state-of-the-art 1.3 litre DdiS engine, and unlike other conventional diesel engines, it is silent, clean, compact, powerful and offers superior fuel efficiency, claimed the company sources.

The Swift diesel engine is introduced in India within months of its launch in Europe, making it the most contemporary diesel technology.

The engine is described as the "new generation diesel engine with 5-injection technology and an electronic control system that sub-divides the principal injection into smaller multiple injections, leading to homogenous combustion.

This makes the engine silent, minimises vibration and reduces emission substantially, compared to the conventional 3-injection diesel technology.

It is said to be the smallest 4-cylinder engine fitted in any passenger car in the world. Compactness of the engine leaders to superior performance and better fuel economy, said MUL chief Jagdish Khattar.

He added, "Demand for diesel cars is growing in India, and Suzuki Motor Corporation and MUL have made major investments in diesel facilities to serve this customer need. We were keen to launch a diesel car which, while offering the benefits of low fuel cost, would be desired for its refined technology and superior engine performance. The Swift Diesel, a world car with a new generation diesel heart, is the best combination of performance and fuel efficiency in the Indian diesel car market."

Keeping in mind that the new Swift model is suited to Indian roads, the engine has a localisation level of 75.5 percent.
