Mashrafe Mortaza made his impressive Test debut against Zimbabwe at Dhaka in 2001-02. But, health has always been an area of concern for this young paceman.

A persistent back injury caused him to miss the Test series in Sri Lanka in September 2005 - the sixth time he had failed to last throughout a tour.
Though, in April 2006 he made his comeback against Australian, and removed Matthew Hayden early on to start the opponents' embarrassment in the first Test at Fatullah.

Mortaza broke teammate Aftab Ahmed's record taking 6 for 26 to register a 3-0 win in the ODI against Kenya in 2006.
