Maths makes all the difference

HUMAN BEINGS were different from other animals not because that they were social animals. They differed from them due to their knowledge of mathematics. It was the knowledge of mathematics that has created a difference between the man and the animal. This was stated by the principal of the Christ Church College Dr Parvez E Dean, while inaugurating ten-day ?Advance training programme in mathematics for undergraduate students of UP region? on Saturday.

This was stated by the principal of the Christ Church College Dr Parvez E Dean, while inaugurating ten-day ‘Advance training programme in mathematics for undergraduate students of UP region’ on Saturday.

He said in fact animals were more social than men as they never fought so frequently with each other as men did. But they lacked language and the mathematical ability to calculate and to reach at any decision, hence they were inferior to human beings. as the human beings had enormous power of mathematical calculation with regard to every object of the nature. Dr Dean said since the whole universe and all the living beings have a history of mathematical growth, one was ought to know the mathematical calculation system to understand the phenomenon of ‘existence, survival and development,’ he added.

He also advised the participants that they should take keen interest in learning the mathematics if they wanted to succeed in their life.

A member of Subordinate Selection Commission UP Dr SL Shukla, while delivering keynote address on the occasion said that India could achieve the greatest success in the field of information technology due to its knowledge of advanced mathematical principles. He said that students should not feel afraid of the subject but try to learn it in interesting manner. He said that the knowledge of mathematics gives to understand the things as they are and to take independent and clear decision in all matters.

He said though the students at higher classes found the subject difficult due to long gap between the school and the college syllabus, but this problem could be solved by the expert teachers. Dr V Sree Hari Rao said that mathematical modeling played an important role in offering sustainable solutions to the complex problems. He said a mathematical approach to any problem could prove to be a boon to the searcher. He said since mathematics was intertwined with day-to-day life and it formed a base for other subjects it should be studied seriously. Dr Shobha Sharma said that there was a need to clear the basic fundamentals of the subject at the initial stages to understand it properly.

Dr Ashok Kumar Singh from the DST said that the educationists were worried over the decreasing number of students of maths. He suggested that the principles of mathematics should be applied to industry and employment schemes for greater success. On the occasion, an eminent mathematician from IIT-K Dr Piyush Chandra was also present.
