MCD sealing drive: Traders stage protest
Thousands of traders participate in the yatra and renew their pledge not to celebrate Diwali.
Protesting the MCD's decision to resume court-ordered sealing drive against illegal shops in the capital from November, traders in Delhi on Sunday took out a 'sealing sangam yatra' and demanded that the government bring in a constitutional amendment to regularise all business establishments that existed as on December 31, 2005.
Thousands of traders participated in the yatra and renewed their pledge not to celebrate Diwali this year.
"The sealing of business establishments is not the ultimate answer to the grave problem, rather strenous efforts are required for phased and planned development keeping into consideration the ground realities and need of the city. Therefore status quo of business establishments as on 31 December 2005 is advocated," Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary General of the Confederation of All Indian Traders said.
