Mild quake shakes Manila, no damage reported

The epicentre of the undersea quake was 61 kilometre northwest of Mamburao, located 170 kilometre southwest of Manila.

A 4.4-magnitude earthquake shook the Philippine capital on Tuesday but no damage or casualties were reported.

"We expect possible aftershocks but no damage," Renato Solidum, director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, said.

He said the epicentre of the undersea quake was 61 kilometre northwest of Mamburao, the capital of Mindoro Occidental province, located 170 kilometre southwest of Manila.

He said there was no danger of a tsunami.

The Philippine archipelago is located in the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire," where volcanic activity and earthquakes are common.
