“At 9.20 am, some unidentified militants fired at Bashir Ahmed Dar, 40, a resident of Dobi Mohalla, Batamaloo, near his shop,” said a police officer. Dar’s father, Muhammad Jamal Dar, a block president of the NC, had been killed by militants in 1996.

A little known militant group, Islamic Movement of Kashmir, claimed responsibility for the killing.
