This is the third such marathon organised by the IIM-R in the city to create public awareness about gender discrimination and female foeticide.
A spokesperson for the IIM-R said Milka Singh has been roped in by the institute as he is known for his social work.
In a press release issued here, Milkha Singh said, “It is important for us to support and encourage the girl child. Our female athletes, of whom many are from Haryana, have made us proud in the international arena. Public perception and attitude about girls must change as women play an important role in creating equitability in society and nation building. I urge all citizens to take part in the mini-marathon.”
The marathon would comprise four races, including 3km for schoolchildren, 5km each for boys and girls, and 10km for men and women. The 3km race would start from gate one of Maharshi Dayanand University, and participants would return via gate two, while the 5km races would be flagged off from the stadium and participants would run through the medical college. The 10km race would have a similar route, but with an additional 5km track within the campus.
