Moderate Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umer on Monday met President Pervez Musharraf and expressed his group's support to the Pakistani leader's proposals of demilitarisation, self-governance and joint management to resolve the Kashmir issue.
Mirwaiz, who arrived last week to attend the World Social Forum in Karachi, discussed with Musharraf the issues relating to dialogue process to resolve the Kashmir problem.
After the talks, an official release in Islamabad said Musharraf reiterated his resolve for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir "dispute" and said Pakistan would continue its moral, political and diplomatic support for the people of Kashmir.
"For his part, Farooq appreciated the steps taken by Musharraf for the opening of five points along the Line of Control and reunion of divided Kashmiri families. He also lauded the proposals of President Musharraf that had been conveyed to India for the peaceful solution of the Kashmir dispute," the release said.
"The proposals would help resolve the longstanding Kashmir dispute" between the two South Asian nations, it quoted Mirwaiz Farooq as telling Musharraf.
Farooq had told the media in Rawalpindi on Sunday that he believed that a framework for solution of Kashmir issue was expected by the end of this year but its implementation may take a long time.
