Normally on the week end the city is kept away more or less from night and day rostering.
But since early morning power supply of the city had been snapped in phases adding to the woes of people.
According to KESCo officials, this crisis was due to sudden increase in demand of power supply due to humid weather.
Due to scanty rainfall and increase in humidity demand for power supply in the last 48 hours had gone up to 7000 MW.
But, the state had only 5450 MW of power resulting in the shortage of 1550 MW of power.
According to a senior official of the Power Corporation almost all the cities of the state were being subjected to eight to ten hours of rostering.
This is in addition to two to three hours of routine rostering.
The official said that Rajya Vidhyut Utpadan Nigam supplied 2350 MW of power to the State, while from the central quota UP got 2560 MW of power and the remaining power was supplied by the Tanda power plant and hydro power.
However, as usual southern areas of the city were worst affected by the current power crisis.
Almost entire south city reeled under more than 15 hours of power crisis.
Even after restoration of power supply to northern areas of the city at 3.30 pm on Sunday, most of the areas of the south city continued to reel under power crisis.
Normal power supply to southern areas of the city could be restored only after 5 pm. Areas worst affected by the power crisis included Kidwai Nagar, Saket Nagar, Govind Nagar, Babupurwa, Barra, Naubasta, Juhi, Gujaini, Bara Devi, Ratan Lal Nagar, Jawahar Nagar and Dabouli along with other areas.
General manager of KESCo MP Tripathi said, “Rostering is being controlled from the State Capital and KESCo cannot be held responsible for it.”
However, all efforts are being made to ensure that none of the areas of the city faces power crisis due to local faults, Tripathi added.
