“We got a call from the Moradabad police about Verma. We immediately rushed to identify him. Three people had drugged and abducted him but he does not remember much. Doctors say he is better now,” said Amit, Verma’s brother.
According to Verma, he had hired a cab from Udyog Vihar on September 10. Three men were already seated in the car. As they reached Dhaula Kuan, the trio offered him something to eat. The last place he remembers is Connaught Place. Verma is a resident of Platinum Heights in Sector 18B, Dwarka. On the day he went missing, Verma left home at 10.30am in his Honda City car for office which is located in Udyog Vihar Phase 5, Gurgaon. Though the police have registered a case of abduction against unidentified people, preliminary investigation revealed that the executive had allegedly “cooked up the abduction drama as he was under heavy debt”.
“Verma used to spend extravagantly. He always spoke tall of his family and friends. Despite earning an average salary, he paid R10,000 to his driver,” said inspector Amarjeet Singh, SHO, Udyog Vihar.
The police said Verma had bought the Honda City car from his colleague few months ago. The deal was fixed at R3.5 lakh but Verma had paid only R2.5 lakh. He had also borrowed more than R7 lakh from friends and relatives.
The SHO added, “We are waiting for his arrival. We are investigating as to how and when he reached Moradabad.”
