A policeman, who has gone missing in Kashmir three days back, is suspected to have joined hands with militants.
A policeman, who has gone missing in Kashmir three days back, is suspected to have joined hands with militants.
The jawan identified as Mohammad Shafi Dar has taken his service rifle along with him.
According to officials, Dar was working with the Special Operation Group (SOG) camp in North Kashmir's Sopore and was transferred to the district police lines before.
"At the moment, all we know is that Dar was to report to duty in police lines two days back, but he failed to do so. He went missing on Thursday evening along with his service rifle,'' said a Srinagar based police spokesman.
However, sources say initial investigations revealed that the SPO had links with the militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba. The police have registered a case and constituted a special inquiry team to trace the whereabouts of the "missing soldier."
"He even gave some hints to his mother, showed her the rifle as well. His mother could not comprehend much, but now believes that he was seeking permission to join militancy,'' said a source close to the family.
Dar's family, however, was not available for comment.
Dar was a former Hizbul Mujahideen militant who was inducted in the police force after laying down arms in 2011.
