He was murdered a day before at his residence by a group of local goons. The assailants raped his maid too before killing her. The bodies were thrown into the Indira Canal on Sultanpur Road that day only.

All this came to light when the cops arrested the main accused and three of his associates. They recovered the cop’s service pistol (.9 mm), victim’s cellphone, Rs 15,000 cash and the Tata Sumo used in the crime.

The goons were a regular visitor to Dwivedi. They all had liquor at his residence when they eliminated the cop and his maid Kiran. Dwivedi’s illicit relation with two women including that with wife of the main accused was the prime motive behind the killings.

The S-I was last seen a day before in the evening.

In the course of investigation, SHO Krishnanagar JP Singh collected call details of S-I Dwivedi’s mobilephone to see frequent conversation between the cop and a local goon Radhakant Dubey alias Kakku Dubey of Sunder Nagar locality in the same police circle. The police team started keeping track on Kakku’s activities and engaged police informers on the job.

No sooner the cops collected information about Kakku’s presence at S-I Dwivedi’s house in the night on October 16, they picked him up. As the senior officials quizzed Kakku rigorously, he confessed to have eliminated the cop and his maid Kiran with the help of his aides Sabir, Robin Sonkar, Punit, Rinku Lala and Kukku’s driver Raju Gupta. Kakku said he had come close to Dwivedi while latter’s posting at the local police station two years back.

During Dwivedi’s stay in Krishnanagar, Kakku used to seek cop’s help in several illegal activities and arrange money for favour. Kakku revealed he developed animosity with the cop since he came to know that Dwivedi had illicit relation with daughters Kakku’s friends.

It was Kakku who had introduced two of his friends to Dwivedi and the latter developed intimacy to the girls of the two families. Narrating the sequence of events, Kakku said he along with his associates (named in the case) went to Dwivedi’s house with liquor and snacks. They all, along with the cop, were having liquor there when Rinku Lala suddenly went to the kitchen where maid Kiran (22) was preparing food.

Rinku reportedly tried to molest her which she objected and raised an alarm. Dwivedi reportedly walked to the kitchen and started beating Rinku. Kakku and his friends too lost their temper and pounced upon the S-I.

They overpowered the drunken cop and assaulted him brutally. Meanwhile, Rinku and Punit gagged Kiran and took her to another room where they outraged her modesty.

On the other hand, Kakku and his aides strangled Dwivedi with a cord to death. The assailants later went to another room and they too took turns on Kiran. The woman was strangled to death later. The assailants collected Rs 1.35 lakhs kept in a briefcase, two of cop’s mobile phones and his service pistol from the house.

They later took the bodies on a Tata Sumo and dumped them in the canal.

Punit and Rinku were yet to be arrested.
