Describing himself as a member of the BJP MP’s family, Agrawal said he would not desert him for vested political interests.

He said praise by the chief minister was not a matter of pride for him as State SP leaders had condemned his political mentor Yogi Adityanath.

Talking to mediapersons, Agrawal, at the same time, said appreciation by the chief minister or the prime minister was the sign of a healthy democracy.

He recalled that Pt Jawaharlal Nehru had appreciated former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the later Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was impressed by the sincerity of socialist leader Madhu Dandavate.

Agrawal said appreciation should not be given the political meaning that he would join the SP, or go against Adityanath.

He said, in fact, by appreciating him indirectly, Mulayam Singh Yadav had accepted that Yogi Adityanath had given the people a sincere MLA.

However, Agrawal admitted that his invitation to the chief minister to inaugurate the Dharmshala overbridge was a political mistake.

He said it was part of a strategy to expedite construction work.
