MNNIT ready for the third convocation
THE THIRD convocation of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) will be held at the multi-purpose hall of the institute from 2.15 pm on November 11. A total of 675 students, including 423 B Tech, 163 M Tech, 57 MCA, 28 MMS and 5 PhD students, will receive degrees.

A total of 675 students, including 423 B Tech, 163 M Tech, 57 MCA, 28 MMS and 5 PhD students, will receive degrees.
Addressing media persons here on Thursday, MNNIT Director Prof Arun Baran Samaddar said that a total of 41 medals would also be given to meritorious students on the occasion.
"The gold medals, which will be conferred on PG students, include 13 M Tech, one MCA and one MMS student. The institute will also award gold medals to one student in the final year of each of seven branches, one student each for the overall topper for first three years and one for topper of all branches in the final year," Prof Samaddar added.
He said that besides these, 26 institute gold medals, 15 other medals would also be awarded by alumni and former faculty members of the institute to UG and PG students of various branches. One medal will be awarded by Tata Consultancy Services.
"So far 260 pass-outs have registered for the convocation. We expect the number to increase to 300. These students are travelling from different parts of the country to receive their degrees in person. It is to be noted that there is an increase in number of the students who were conferred degree from last year, and those who will come to receive degrees in person.
The institute has taken special interest to ensure that recipients come in large numbers to receive their degrees in the convocation," Prof Samaddar said.
"We are extremely happy to share that all the degree recipients are well placed.
This year the placement scenario is even better and almost all the students passing out in 2007 are already placed with leading companies and some have also received foreign offers directly," he added.
Prof Samaddar said that Padma Bhushan Prof NS Ramaswamy would be the chief guest of the convocation function.
"Prof Ramaswamy is the founder director of IIM-Bangalore and former Director of NITIE Mumbai. He has founded 'Cartman' (Centre for Action Research and Technology for Man, Animals and Nature) for the larger interest to conserve and preserve nature in all its forms. Prof Ramaswamy is the national professor of management and has dedicated his life for animal welfare and designing innovative animal friendly cart and for spreading need for value-based ethical management practices," he said.
Another industry luminary Saurabh Srivastava will be the guest of honour. "He joined Xansa in 1998 when his company, IIS Infotech Limited (founded in 1989), one of the top 20 software companies in India, was acquired by Xansa.
As founding member, and chairman Emeritus of Nasscom India's software industry association, he guides the activities of Nasscom's UK chapter," Prof Samaddar said.
The convocation will be presided over by ND Gutpa, the Chairman Board of Governors of MNNIT.
A number of committees have been formed to manage various aspects of holding the convocation. Faculty and staff members are all working hard for the success of the convocation.
