Mothers are stricter and harsher with their daughters as compared to their dads, whereas fathers are more likely to check their sons, a recent research conducted by NSPCC has found out.

Officials at the charity organisation said more than two children per hour called their 'ChildLine' reporting physical abuse in 2004-2005.

And more than one in every three girls who called had said that their mother had harmed them.

Conversely, 38 per cent of boys and 27 per cent of girls reported being assaulted by their father.

Meanwhile, the researchers said that such harsh domestic violence compels children to extreme measures, such as leaving the house or self-harming.

"Children call with horrific stories about being kicked, slapped, punched, stamped on and thrown into walls", the Mirror quoted ChildLine director Anne Houston, as saying.

"Many are afraid to speak out or think violence is normal - or worse - that they deserve it", she added.
