Monsoon arrival delayed

India's southwest monsoon may not arrive at Kerala's southern coast before June 8, the Indian Meteorological Dept has said.

India's southwest monsoon is unlikely to arrive at the southern coast of Kerala state before June 8, a senior official of the India Meteorological Department said on Tuesday.

"We can't expect the onset of the monsoon before June 8 as the progress of monsoon currents are slow," MD Ramachandran, director of the meteorology department in Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala, told Reuters.

The monsoon normally hits the southern Indian coast in June 1.
