For the second night in a row, the Philippines dropped an Asian Games men's basketball heart-breaker and this time it cost them a medal.

Vitaliy Strebkov scored 30 points to lead Kazakhstan past the Filipinos 68-66 here Sunday in the Asian Games bronze medal match. Yevgeniy Issakov added 16 points and nine rebounds for the winners.

The Philippines had their spirits crushed one night earlier when a last-second three-point shot by South Korea delivered a 69-68 defeat that denied the Filipinos a place in the gold medal match Monday against China.

Jeffrey Cariaso scored 18 points while Pauliasi Taulava added 15 points and 17 rebounds for Philippines.

Taiwan, playing here as Chinese Taipei, defeated Japan 86-79 in the women's basketball bronze medal match.
