More Sri Lankan refugees arrive in Tamil Nadu

As many as 1,751 refugees have arrived in Tamil Nadu since January last, following the outbreak of hostilities between Govt and the LTTE.

There has been no let up in the inflow of Tamil refugees from the strife-torn island nation of Sri Lanka with as many as 66 people, belonging to 19 families, arriving at Dhanushkodi Coast early on Saturday by three boats.

Official sources said they included 20 women and an equal number of children.

They fled Trinconmalee out of fear of getting trapped in the hostilities between the Sri Lankan Army and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

The 'Q' Branch police were making arrangements to send them to the refugee camp in Mandapam after ascertaining their identity.

With this as many as 1,751 refugees have arrived in Tamil Nadu since January last, following the outbreak of the hostilities.
