A tragedy was averted in Jammu after a mortar shell found near a shopping complex was defused by the army, police said on Friday.
“The 81-mm mortar shell used by the army was recovered from a drain near a shopping complex in Shankar Nagar on Thursday evening,” a police official said.
"19 Grenadiers was informed and the shell was removed and destroyed at Sunjwan,” he said, adding that investigation was on to ascertain how a mortar shell used by the army reached the civilian area.
“It seems that the bomb might have been washed away by Thursday’s flooding in the area,” he said.
