THE PREREQUISITE of minimum two years’ tenure for BHEL Director has rendered nearly two-dozen Executive Directors (EDs) of various BHEL units ineligible for the post.
Director (HR) S K Jain and Director (Industrial Sector) A K Mathur are retiring in September this year. Process to select their successors began in the corporate office, New Delhi, on Friday with interviews of general managers.
None of the EDs will have two years service left by the time the posts are filled. Hence they have been ruled out.
Otherwise, usually EDs are promoted as directors.

A senior General Manager from the Bhopal unit, S Lomesh, also participated in interviews for Director (HR). Four General Managers of Bhopal unit — M K Dubey, Prabhart Kumar, R Krishnan and S K Pani — are likely to try their luck next week in interviews for Director (Industrial System).
Company sources claimed that a GGM level officer, Anil Sachdeva, has emerged as a frontrunner for the post of Director (HR).
The BHEL is having 14 manufacturing units headed by EDs. Apart from this, EDs’ are also posted at four power sectors of the company besides International Operation, Corporate Human Resources and Business group division.
The sources said that some Group General Managers (GGMs) who participated in interviews are considered equivalent to ED.
