According to reports, the incident occurred at Majhigawan village, about 35 kilometers from Singrauli district headquarter, on Monday afternoon.

According to police, the girl's mother brought a packet of biscuits and offered it to her four-year-old son in a bid to persuade him not to accompany his elder sister to school. The child was insisting on accompanying his sister to school. The girl asked her brother to keep some biscuits for her too and that she would have it on returning from school.

However, when she returned, she found that her brother had eaten all the biscuits. She slapped him and poured kerosene and set herself on fire in a fit of anger.

The girl has been admitted to Singruali district hospital. According to doctors, she has received 30% burns and is out of danger.
