Having walked the ramp for some time and being associated with the Lakme India Fashion Week twice, Mridula Jaishankar now secretly wishes that she could make it big in Bollywood as well. She uncovers on her future plans, bolt of the blue moments on the ramp and much more.
I was a contestant at the Elite Model Look contest in 1998 and that's how modelling happened. Indian models have a longer career compared to a lot of international ones. The reason being India doesn't have a strict age limit. We do have senior models, who still do shows. Also the concept of agencies has not come into being and as freelance models we get to do more shows based on our contacts.
For western cuts I like Rocky S, Shantanu and Nikhil, Aki, Sabhyasachi, Malini and for Indian cuts I like Neeta Lulla and Hemant Trivedi's creations.
Bolt from the blue moments on the ramp
I was doing a show in Dubai. As I was climbing down steps, which was at the centre entry point, my shoe slipped and I fell backwards. It appeared as if I had just entered and sat on the stairs. It was very funny and I laughed my way down the catwalk and got applauded for the same.
My plans ahead
Life has been great as a model and I know there is lot more that I would like to explore. I have almost finished shooting for a Hindi movie, which should release in about two months. I am playing a small role opposite Jackie Shroff and have a dance sequence in the movie. The star cast includes Vivek Oberoi and Sameera Reddy and I am looking forward to some more good days like these.
