POLICE GUNNED down a motorcycle-borne criminal near Kuan village, under Khajani police station, in the wee hours of Sunday. He was identified as Shatrughan, said to be an active member of the Munna Bajrangi group.

An accomplice of Shatrughan escaped during the encounter around 1 am.
Shatrughan was a resident of Kalesar village, under Sahjanwa police station. Police recovered a looted motorcycle, a revolver and live cartridges from his possession. SSP Raja Srivastav declared Rs 2,500, the DIG Rs 5,000 and the IG Rs 10,000 rewards for the police team.

Police said the two miscreants looted the motorcycle of Vijay Yadav, a resident of Sahjanwa, on Saturday night. Police personnel were directed to check the motorcycle.
Cops heave sigh of relief

Cops in Varanasi and prominent traders were overjoyed to hear that hardcore criminal Kripa Shanker Choudhry had been gunned down by the STF of Uttar Pradesh in Mumbai on Sunday. Kripa Shanker, a resident of Hukulganj area under Cantonment police station in Varanasi, was carrying a reward of Rs 50000 on his head. IG Varanasi zone had recently recommended Rs 1 lakh reward on his arrest.

An associate of absconding criminal of Jaunpur, Munna Bajrangi, Choudhry’s name had surfaced in the crime world when he shot dead three persons including a private gunner in Hukulgang area under the Cantonment police station in the year 2001.

Later, during an encounter at Lalganj area in Mirzapur, he along with other criminals, had shot dead a station officer and injured two S-Is and an ASP.
