Deepandra and his accomplices started indiscriminate firing at the person who was identified as Shashish Kumar Singh, general secretary of Manav Suraksha Samiti and resident of F- Block Kidwai Nagar. Shahshish died on the spot.
Sources said that the murder was the outcome of a rivalry between the police constable and Shashish for the ensuing ward elections of the Municipal Corporation. Sources said that Deependra wanted his sister-in-law Manju to contest the ward head election while Shashish wanted to field his sister-in-law Asha in the elections.
Nearly two months back, they opened fire on each other in which some persons got injured in the Kidwai Nagar area.
The constable, Deependra, who was recently in the news for calling himself ‘Teesari Radha’, is posted at the Economic Offence Wing in Lucknow.
On some earlier occasions too, he was accused of committing several crimes.
Reacting to the kiling, circle officer of Babupurwa Asha Ram Yadav said, “The police have confirmed the fact that after he started calling himself ‘Teesri Radha’, the department recommended an action against him.”
Deependra’s elder brother Yogendra Singh is a former ward head and reportedly member of the Congress Party. The police were searching for the accused and his accomplices and cordoned off all the exit points of the city.
