Nandini enthralls music lovers

RENOWNED CLASSICAL musicians and dancers enthralled the audience with their meticulous performances at Nagri Natak Mandali on Saturday night. The programme was organised under the auspices of Nad Bramha, a cultural organisation.

RENOWNED CLASSICAL musicians and dancers enthralled the audience with their meticulous performances at Nagri Natak Mandali on Saturday night. The programme was organised under the auspices of Nad Bramha, a cultural organisation.

The programme began with the performance of Kathak dancer Nandini Sinha of Kolkata, who enthralled the audience with her eye-catching gestures. She was accompanied by Vijay Shankar, Pratik Mukharjee on tabla and Anand Gupta on harmonium.

The dance was followed by the vocal recital of a blind artiste Suchit Narang of Dehradun, who learnt music from Madhuri Matto of the Kirana Gharana. The melodious bandish rendered by Suchit left the audience spellbound. He was accompanied by Anand Lahiri on tabla.

Dev Jyoti Bose of Kolkata rendered a sarod recital which was equally appreciated by the audience. Pt Kumar Bose of Kolkata provided accompaniment on the tabla.The chief guest at the function was divisional commissioner of Varanasi CN Dubey while district magistrate Nitin Ramesh Gokarn was the special guest. Patron of Nad Bramha Padamvibhushan awardee and renowned tabla maestro Pt Kishan Maharaj presided over the function.

Pt. Kishan Maharaj said that the money collected from the annual function of this organisation would be extended to the bereaved family members of a musician Ghulam Jaffer Khan of Jhansi.

“Jaffer had given his consent to stage this programme at Nagari Natak Mandali on Saturday but unfortunately he died of cancer on March 17”, he said and added that he was informed by the bereaved son on telephone.

Meanwhile, Lions Club Ashoka and Lok Ras organised a musical function jointly at Paradkar Bhavan to mark the 90th birthday of shehnai maestro and Bharat Ratna awaredee Bismilah Khan. The sons of Bismillah Khan, Naiyer Khan and Jamin Hussain and his nephew Mumtaz Hussain and Ansar Hussain rendered shehnai and enthralled the audience on the occasion.
