Recognised as an able tribal leader, former chief of Bharatiya Janta Party’s Madhya Pradesh unit Nandkumar Sai, is the Leader of Opposition in Chhattisgarh assembly.

A senior BJP leader with a vast experience in Parliament and Assembly, Sai was unanimously elected as Leader of the Oppn by the BJP on December 13, 2000.

He was, however, Jolted by Ajit Jogi’s masterstroke in getting her daughterPriyam Paikra, a janpad chief in Jaspur district to switch camps, but overcame it soon to come back with vengeance. There was a lot of hue and cry when Sai was beaten up by police at a public rally.
