An improvised bomb struck an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) vehicle at about 4:30 am local time, ISAF said in a statement.

"The soldiers were evacuated by helicopter to ISAF's multinational hospital at Kandahar Airfield, where one of them was pronounced dead," it said, releasing no other details.

The soldier, whose nationality was not released, is the fourth ISAF troop to be killed in southern Afghanistan since NATO took command of the region Monday from a US-led coalition.
