NCR officials are also planning to install the VSAT in its Accident Relief Trains to make rescue and relief operations more effective at the accident site.

The work is first of its kind for the Indian Railways.

Talking to HT Allahabad Live, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) SK Chowdhary said, "Very Small Aperture Terminal will help in controlling the crowd during mela in a much better manner as the modern technique will help in strengthening the communication". The much-hyped VSAT has a portable dish antenna which will be installed in the control room in the mela area. The VSAT will be connected to the base station, which will be set up shortly.

Besides, a transmittor and a receiver will be provided at the place where the portable dish antenna is placed and also at the base station, said the DRM.

He further said that signals received at both the ends would also be taken on the railways base line as well on the mobile.

Besides, in order to have video conferencing, a video camera will also be accommodated, he added.

Railways have also planned to place the VSAT in the Accident Relief Trains (ARTs) which are provided in all the three divisions of the NCR----Allahabad, Agra and Jhansi.

"With this, the situation of the site would be known easily at the control room and proper directions would be given accordingly", he said.

Railway Board has sanctioned funds for the work said the DRM adding that per terminal the cost is about Rs 50 lakh.
