?Need to remove wrong notions about madarsas?

PROF YASIN Mazhar of Aligarh University said that non-Muslim scholars should be called in madarsas to make the students aware of the importance of other religions.

He was speaking at a special session of a seminar at Jamia Salphia, Muslims’ deemed university, on Sunday. The topic of the special session was “Present Condition of Islamic Madarsas in the Country”.

Prof Mazhar said that by calling non-Muslim scholars to the madrasas, the Muslim students could get an opportunity to understand the contents of different religions like Hindu, Christian, Sikh and other communities.

He said that madarsas should make efforts to clarify allegations that anti-social elements were getting shelter in madarsas and madarsas were not in the mainstream of society. He added that madarsas should come forward and apprise the people of the objective of their institution.

Another Muslim scholar of Aligarh University, Dr Saud Alam Kasmi exhorted that the madarsas should learn lessons from the universities to adopt some new techniques of teaching. He added that the administrations of madarsas should train their volunteers to propagate the objective of madarsas. “The madarsas should act as a media friendly”, he said.

“The allegation that anti-social elements are found in madarsas is wrong. Anti-social elements can be found anywhere, in universities, colleges, other institutions or outside’, he said.

Secretary of Jamia Salphia Abdula Saud said that the good works of madarsas should be highlighted in the media and the old tradition of teachings in madarsas should be replaced by some innovative and new techniques of teachings.

Dr Muktada Hassan said that the main objective behind the establishments of madarsas was to preserve the Muslim religion and its importance. He said that madarsas had played a vital role in the freedom struggle of the country.
