The Nehru stadium was established in 1962 but hosted its first international match only in 1983 during the West Indies tour of India.

Since then this venue has played host to only a few more ODI's, despite having quality infrastructure and being blessed with a enviable location.

Since Guwahati is situated in the north-eastern part of the country, one of the main drawbacks is the heavy early morning fog and the light that fades early in the evening - both of which shorten the day's play considerably.
