Playing politics
President George W. Bush’s visit to India was only an excuse by the parties who opposed the visit to whip up public frenzy on issues that had little to do with the visit. Citizens should realise that the Left and the SP are misleading the public for electoral gains. It is time they wake up to the reality that the development of the country will free them from the clutches of such leaders.

Protests are part and parcel in a democracy but there is no place for violence (Reckless rant, March 4). The riots in Lucknow are condemnable. But it does seem, going by reports, that all this was state-sponsored as the Samajwadi Party had also organised a rally against George Bush’s visit. It means politicians incite hatred among masses for their personal gains.

Digging up the past
Instead of enlightening the readers how a grave miscarriage of justice could be prevented and what should be the responsibility of the home minister, A.G. Noorani thought it more appropriate to bring in the alleged role of some individuals prior to what happened on Dec. 6, 1992 (Clarity begins at Home, March 7). A murder has gone unpunished due to a brazen cover-up. But the two cases are not similar.
