Nitisha and Amit win 100m freestyle

NITISHA JAIN of UTD and Amit Batham of Extol Institute emerged victorious in the women and men?s 100 m freestyle events of the Inter-Collegiate Swimming Competition organised by Barkatullah University at Prakash Tarun Pushkar here today.

NITISHA JAIN of UTD and Amit Batham of Extol Institute emerged victorious in the women and men’s 100 m freestyle events of the Inter-Collegiate Swimming Competition organised by Barkatullah University at Prakash Tarun Pushkar here today.

In the women’s 100 m freestyle category, second-year UTD student Nitisha Jain timed 1.3 minutes to take first place while Niharika Sharma of VNS came second with a timing of 1.45 minutes.

Amit Batham faced some tough competition from Shekhar Batham of Rajiv Gandhi College in the men’s 100 m freestyle event. Amit finally won the event timing 1.49 minutes, barely .01 seconds ahead of Shekhar.

In other events, Pooja Bhadoria of Hamidia College won women’s 50 m freestyle, Anand Raikwar of Jawaharlal Nehru College took the honours in men’s 100 m breaststroke and Sumit Batham of Hamidia College emerged victorious in the 100 m men’s backstroke and 50 m freestyle.

Similarly, Pragati Atre of LBS bagged the women’s 100 m backstroke title, Niharika Sharma of VNS won women’s 100 m breaststroke, Rahul Raikwar of Hamidia emerged victorious in men’s 200 m breaststroke, Gaurav Raikwar of Hamidia won the 200 m freestyle event and Ramu Verma of PG College Narsinghgarh won the men’s 200 m backstroke event.

BU Sports Officer Khalil said the competition was organised to select members for the university team. Alok Mishra of Barkatullah University and others were present on the occasion.
