"There will be no difficulty in choosing the Chief Minister. The elected legislators will meet and decide as to who would be the CM," Janardan Dwivedi, party general secretary in charge of Haryana, said after the trends showed a clear mandate towards Congress.

The claimants for the top post included old war horse and former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, Birendra Singh, Bhupinder Singh Hooda and young turks Selja and Randeep Singh Surjewala.

Asked about the public comments made by some of the leaders about their claim to the top post, Dwivedi said, "We can contain their public utterances but not their aspirations. Anybody can aspire to become the Chief Minister. What we can tell them is not to behave in public in such a manner."

He said the trends in the counting of votes in the State had gone according to the expectations of the party and claimed that it was a vote for the party's performance in other states and against the misrule of Om Prakash Chautala regime.
