Unmoved by all these agitations, the power corporation officials have sent their report to the government and senior officials that 21-hour power supply is continued in the urban part of the district and 12.30-hour uninterrupted power supply is being ensured in rural areas. However, the reality is far removed from the tall claims of the department.
Unscheduled power cuts and low voltage has forced the closure of the Internet centre in Gorakhpur University. Incharge of the centre Hari Ji Singh said the fluctuation in voltage may damage the computers.
Therefore the centre was closed as a precautionary measure. The low voltage has had its impact on the water supply system in various parts of the city also.
The power corporation officials have launched an intensive combing drive to check power theft.
As many as 17 teams were pressed into service and they checked 1,428 connections in various parts of the city. About 418 illegal connections were detected during the raid and 117 FIRs were lodged against power theft but all these efforts failed to improve the power supply scenario.
