Uttar Pradesh Government on Sunday said no proposal regarding any construction or development work is under its consideration under the Taj Heritage Zone in Agra.
Rubbishing a news report that a proposal is under consideration of the state government for development work under Taj Heritage Zone, Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Planning Harminder Raj Singh said, "This news item is baseless, misleading and far from facts".
Singh said any project aimed at promoting tourism in the Taj Heritage Zone could be taken only in accordance with the directives given by the Supreme Court and also after obtaining No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
The news report quoting Tanveer Zafar Ali, Vice-Chairman of Agra Development Authority, stated that if a foot bridge near the Taj leading to Mehtab Bagh was constructed, the passage to the Bagh and Aitmad-ud-Daula would be easier. It was also suggested that while doing so, care should be taken to ensure that it did not block the Taj view.
Besides, no construction should be made within 500 mtrs of the prohibited area. Ali had made it clear that any action on this proposal could be taken only with the permission of the Government. Thus no action on this suggestion has as yet been taken by the Agra Development Authority (ADA).
