According to highly-placed sources, the MEA in a letter addressed to the Delhi Police Commissioner, cited a ‘parking issue’ at the Indian Consulate in Washington, DC which was brought to their attention in January this year, as reason enough to remove protective barricading around the US Embassy.

“In January, a parking area meant solely for Indian diplomats at our consulate there was opened for the general public by US authorities,” said a senior police officer quoting from the said communication from the MEA.
