Former deputy commissioner of Faridabad, Dr Praveen Kumar, took the Millennium City residents by surprise when he randomly inspected Sector 22 and 23 on his first two consecutive days of joining.
His new role as the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) administrator has sent strong message across the city and among the official that everyone has to be strict and honest else ready to face punishment.
It is worth mentioning that during his nearly two-and-half years of administrative tenure in Faridabad and as additional deputy commissioner, Gurgaon, he has left message of honest working.
After joining, Dr Kumar has held two rounds of meetings with his staff, addressed the residents of various sectors twice, delivered justice relating to pending applications and held meetings with the city police as well.
On Wednesday and Thursday, Dr Kumar went out on inspections without his subordinates and challaned people for wasting water, sweepers for leaving garbage unattended. Besides, he also interacted with slum dwellers, residents, women and children.
Residents came up with their complaints and Dr Kumar assured them to address their problems soon.
In Faridabad Dr Kumar, during his random visit interacted with students of a government girls’ senior secondary school, who complained him about the broken fans and how the school’s toilets were being managed by one sweeper only.
A homeopathy doctor and an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Dr Kumar surprised the students and staff, when he started cleaning the toilet of the school himself.
During his tenure as ADC, Gurgaon, Dr Kumar had taken strong action against parking mafia. He removed encroachments from Iffco Chowk.
Talking to media on Thursday, Kumar said that he wants his officials to remain alert and hinted that government has given him free hand to dismiss any official found guilty.
Meanwhile, Dr Praveen Kumar said, “We want total transparency in our system and more accountability towards the residents”. He expressed concern over poor working style of Huda officials.
Kumar’s toilet-training cum cleaning act is known to all.
