“We were never behind and always leading even as others were catching up fast,” said Vipul Mehrotra, director and head of smart devices, Nokia India.

“With a dual-platform lineup we’ll engage the Windows platform for the high-end models while the Symbian platform will help us deliver innovations at the mid and the lower range. Starting now the strategy is definitely going to help us increase the gap,” said Mehrotra.

Nokia aims to capture significant market share in the smart-phone segment. “This is a beginning of a new ecosystem where we will create and sustain partnerships as consumers give us the numbers to maintain leadership,” said Mehrotra.

Nokia claims it will launch handsets at regular intervals from both its Windows and the Symbian platform. At present, smartphones contributes 7-9% of the total handset market in volume terms and 25% in value terms.
