Now, kids wage war against polio

After the Health Department, it was now the turn of children to spearhead the battle against polio. Over 600 school children poured out on the streets in polio sensitive area and appealed to the parents to administer polio drops to their young ones, here on Friday. Armed with polio awareness banners and posters designed by them, they took out a massive rally from D Type Health Post Kareli locality.

Marching smartly, under the leadership of chief medical officer Dr Shantimal Singhavi, the children passed through Nurullah Road, Haddi Godown (where a fresh polio cases was detected), Kareli's block B, C and D, State Bank of India, and Lal Colony.

The children and students, who were mostly from DAV College, Ornellas Public School, Majidia Inter College and government primary schools, again gathered at the D Type Health Post where a magic show was organised for them.

About 75 NCC cadets, school teachers and D Type Health post workers also participated in the rally.

The CMO addressed the residents near Haddi Godown and requested them to take their children to the polio booths on November 12.

Nodal Officer of pulse polio programme Dr Kalim Akmal said polio drive could become successful only with the hundred per cent participation of community.

A large number of senior medical officers including Dr Pathak, Dr SD Dwivedi and D Type Health Post incharge ON Trivedi were also present in the rally.

The health department will also take out polio awareness rally from the Dufferin Women's Hospital on November 11.
