Both Republicans and Democrats are looking at securing the interests of the US. The US also wants a base in India in case of future tension with China. So it is a matter of ‘give and take’.

The government should control the prices of petrol and diesel to check the steep hike in prices of essential commodities like vegetables, fruits and pulses. A long-term strategy could be to encourage the use of CNG and other alternative fuels.
