Biography:

Despite being the third generation scion of illustrious Farooq Abdullah family, former minister of state for external affairs Omar is still regarded naïve in world of politics. However, fast picking up the tricks of the trade since he stepped into his father Farooq Abdullah's shoes as the chief of National Conference, he is aiming big. The Lok Sabha polls 2004 will be his first major test after his party's government was ousted in J&K after years of rule in historic assembly elections in which he was projected as the Chief Minister of the state.

Omar is known for being speculative, articulate, practical and altogether as a balanced personality. He is seen as polite but firm and well organised in his work.

Known for his modern outlook, Omar is keen to reform Kashmir's dilapidated economy. During his tenure as the Minister of State for External Affairs he claims to have worked for providing employment to people of J&K. But the terrorism, though on a decline these days, continues to be a headache for Omar Abdullah as well the state where the situation is much changed since the time of his grandfather Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
