US Defence Secretary Robert Gates dismissed Sunday Russian President Vladimir Putin's attack on the United States as a dangerous world power, declaring succinctly: "One Cold War was quite enough."

"Speaking of issues going back many years, as an old Cold Warrior, one of yesterday's speakers almost filled me with nostalgia for a less complex time. Almost," he told a gathering of senior officials from around the world.
