A man has been arrested here by a team of Mumbai CID officers on the charge of extorting money from influential persons in Mumbai, police said today.

Thirty-five-year-old, Bijay Krushnaji Rao, was picked up yesterday with the help of local police from his house at Sidhartha Nagar, police said.

He was produced before a judicial magistrate who granted him transit remand. He would now be produced before a court in Mumbai.

Mumbai police, however, did not disclose details of the crimes he had allegedly committed. Local police said he used to visit Mumbai frequently.

The Mumbai police already arrested some of his associates who formed a gang to extort money, sources said.
