BRIGADIER GOPAL Singh Sandhu is a great aficionado of Bhopal and its people. He dedicates most of his time to the projects associated with both. Born on April 5, 1941, in Gurdaspur, he was commissioned into the Indian Army in the year 1966. He is the first Short Services Officer commissioned into the Army Supply Corps.

A post-graduate in Defence Studies, he has held various important appointments like Commandant RSD Lucknow, Commanding Officer Central Food Laboratory (CFL) at Lucknow, and Commanding Officer ASC Battalion etc. He was the first non-technical Commanding Officer of the CFL.

He retired as the DDST Headquarter 21 Corps, Bhopal. His 30 years of service encompasses administration of large store holding installations and organisations employing civil/defence personnel including all aspects of management of men, material, transport, finance, housing and security, manpower planning and human resource development, selection and training of officers, supervisors and workers, liaison with Central/State Governments, Municipal Corporations, Ministry of Defence, trade and industry officials.

In Bhopal Military Station, Brig Sandhu is famous for the immense humanitarian work that he has undertaken. A philanthropist at heart, Brig Sandhu is associated with several orphanages and old age home of the City. At some he is a generous contributor while at others he oversees the administration part.

His teaching of the technique of Transdental Meditation is immensely popular among the young and old alike which helps one reach the source of one’s thought process. In the old age home a lot of elders have benefited from this meditation both emotionally as well as physically.

With years of service in the Kashmir valley and the North- east, he values human life far more than anything else hence has dedicated himself to the service of the mankind.

Brig Sandhu is presently Director Personnel and Administration of Maharishi Vidya Mandirs, the largest chain of privately owned public schools by a registered society Maharishi Shiksha Sansthan.

Brig Sandhu feels that ours is one of the best Forces in terms of professional competency. He also feels that a lot needs to be done for our jawans post retirement.

The State Government keeps certain seats reserved for armed forces but most of the time people are not qualified hence the seats are surrendered. Instead these should be made available to their spouse or children.

This will help ex-servicemen as well as the servicemen greatly. We wish him and his family all the very best in life.
