The agitation will be launched on May 8 and continue till May 30. Torchlight processions, dharnas and demonstrations will be staged during the stir.
Addressing a meeting at Gorakhnath temple, Adityanath said the government was pursuing anti-people policies and had ignored the Gorakhpur division in allocation of funds for development projects.

He accused the government of sheltering criminals and anti-national elements. He cited various schemes and development projects, which were incomplete and blamed the State Government for not releasing funds. He said the government was creating hindrances in the much-hyped Tala power project. Delay on the part of State Government in providing land at GIDA had affected the project, he said. Similarly, the State Government was not cooperating in construction of a second bridge on the Rapti, he added.

Adityanath chalked out a seven-point charter of demands.

The demands included filling vacant posts at the district hospital and the BRD Medical College. He demanded uninterrupted power supply for 22 hours daily in Gorakhpur. He also called for steps to check anti- national and anti-Hindu activities.

Various organisations led by Adityanath will take out a torchlight procession on May 8. A public meeting will be organised at the first class gate of the railway station on May 9.

Activists of the saffron brigade will march from the railway station to the district magistrate’s office, where they will hand over a memorandum to the district magistrate.

In the second phase, from May 15 to 30, the saffron brigade will stage a relay hunger strike and demonstration at the district magistrate’s office.
Gorakhpur bandh has been called on June 2 against a proposed slaughterhouse at Mahewa Mandi.
