Pakistan's much-awaited cricket tour of India will go ahead despite differences over Islamabad's refusal to play at Ahmedabad.

Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran told journalists there was "no reason to believe that the tour will not go through".

The Pakistani team is to leave for India February 25 for a three-Test and five one-dayer series. The visit returns a very successful tour of the Indian team to Pakistan last year.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) president Shaharyar Khan, a former foreign secretary, was scheduled to meet Indian External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh later on Wednesday or Thursday to sort out differences over the Ahmedabad issue.

Politicians and lawmakers from India and Pakistan have taken advantage of a thaw in bilateral ties to visit the other side, and one of the most significant confidence-building steps has been in the field of sports.

Teams of cricket and hockey players, representing the most popular games in the subcontinent, have undertaken bilateral tours.

The Indian cricket team's tour of Pakistan last year after a gap of 15 years was seen as a grand success.
