The Palestinian public works and housing minister in the Hamas-led government was arrested by Israeli troops on Friday in the West Bank town of Ramallah, Palestinian security sources said.
Abdelrahman Zidane, 46, was arrested at dawn from his home in the West Bank political capital, the sources said.
Deputy Prime Minister Nasseredine al-Shaer, who was arrested by Israeli troops as part of a massive clampdown against the ruling Hamas movement in August and released in September, confirmed his colleague had been detained.
An Israeli army spokeswoman said only that a "Hamas terrorist in Ramallah" had been arrested, without providing any further details.
