People's Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday said she has asked the Prime Minister to announce a rehabilitation package for the girls exploited in the sex racket that shook Jammu and Kashmir recently.

"Although out of context, I did ask Prime Minister Manmohan Singh (during the roundtable conference) to announce a rehabilitation package for the girls exploited in the sex racket," she told reporters in Srinagar.

She said most of the employment and developmental schemes focus on the uplift of rural areas of the country which had "resulted in poverty" in the urban areas as the youth depend on government jobs for livelihood.

The 'Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan' and other healthcare schemes under implementation in urban areas like Srinagar city should be made more "girl-oriented" so that the fairer sex is not exploited by culprits on the pretext of providing them jobs, she said.

Mufti, whose party has been demanding making the names of the top politicians, police officials and businessmen involved in the racket public, said law will takes its own course as the Jammu and Kashmir High Court was monitoring the investigations conducted by CBI into the case.
